Most of block 2 is a continuation of the same foliage as block 1. The exceptions are the caterpillar and butterfly which will address below.
Just some in progress shots:

Here is a close up of the caterpillar. And if you don’t have the red thread at this point, no worries. It can easily be added later.

And the monarch. I did not add my butterflies until after the project was quilted. This allowed my quilter to quilt where they would be attached without the butterflies being in the way. But I would lay/pin them in place while I was working on it.

But that is why you don’t see a body on that butterfly. And, while I was waiting on the dies for the butterfly bush, I started on block 12. It was MUCH less intimidating to me. But that meant that I did the blue morph butterfly first. So the butterfly instructions will use images of that butterfly. The monarch instructions are the same–except the monarch is large enough I made him as 2 pieces rather than 1.
Applique the orange to the black and complete the stitches as directed in the pattern.
Now, because we want those wings to be free and able to “flutter” but we don’t want the backside and our stitches to be seen, we are going to hide it with black interfacing. Don’t cut the interfacing to fit the butterfly wing. Iron it on gently using parchment paper like this: (except cover the entire half of the monarch)

In the end it will look like this: (again just imagine one half)

Now trim the interfacing to the edges of the black wool. You’ll use this same process for most of the butterflies. I completed most of them as I sewed each block, but I kept them in a little case until the project was completed.
